Car Transportation from Dubai to CIS & Central Asia: Multi-Car Requests, Insurance & Route Planning Guide

NHK Logistics LLC · 30 October 2026 · 8 min read

Dubai is one of the largest vehicle re-export markets in the world, and a large share of those cars travel toward the CIS and Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Afghanistan. Moving a car to those destinations is different from a straightforward port-to-port sea shipment, because the route usually combines a sea or air leg with road or rail transit through other countries. NHK Logistics plans those movements through its cars transportation service, quoting single cars and multi-car fleets with the route, insurance choice and shipping date agreed before the vehicle is collected.

Start with clean vehicle details

Vehicle cargo needs more detail than general cargo before it can be quoted properly. The make, model, year and body type decide which carrier or container fits, the condition decides whether the car can be driven or must be winched and secured, and the destination decides the documents and the route. Send the details for each car as a separate entry even when several cars are booked together; a mixed request with incomplete entries is the most common reason a quotation has to be reissued.

  • Car type and the transportation type you prefer (RoRo, container, car carrier or a multimodal route)
  • Make, manufacturer model and year, plus the VIN or chassis number
  • Running or non-running condition, and any damage or modifications
  • Insurance required or not, with the declared value if required
  • Preferred shipping date and whether a pre-shipment check is wanted
  • Destination country, city and the consignee's details
  • Number of vehicles in the request, each listed separately

Single car or a multi-car request

Several cars can be included in one request while each vehicle keeps its own entry, its own documents and its own handover record. That matters for dealers and exporters who move fleets, because a shared 40ft container, a car-carrier load or a RoRo booking is priced and planned as a group while customs and insurance still treat every car individually. Our guide to RoRo versus container car shipping explains which method suits running, non-running, high-value and multi-vehicle shipments.

Decide on insurance before the car moves

Insurance is a choice made at the quotation stage, not after a problem. Cargo insurance for a vehicle is normally priced on the declared value and the route, and it should cover the full journey rather than only the sea leg when the car continues by road or rail across borders. Confirm what is excluded, how pre-existing damage is recorded and what documents the insurer needs to settle a claim. A car shipped without insurance travels at the owner's risk beyond the carrier's limited liability, so the decision should be a deliberate one.

Pre-shipment check and handover record

A pre-shipment check records the condition of the car before it enters the logistics chain: photographs of every panel, the odometer reading, the fuel level, loose items removed, keys and documents listed, and any existing scratches noted on a handover sheet signed by both sides. The same sheet is used at each handover along the route and at final delivery, which protects the owner, the transporter and the consignee if the condition is questioned later. Ask for a copy at collection and keep it with the shipping file.

Export documents on the Dubai side

A UAE-registered vehicle needs an export certificate and export clearance before it can leave the country, and the car must be free of outstanding fines, loans or registration issues before that certificate is issued. Our step-by-step car export certificate and documents guide covers the inspection, export plates and port paperwork; NHK Logistics prepares the export declaration through its customs clearance service and handles vehicle clearance at Jebel Ali when the car ships by sea.

Route planning toward CIS destinations

There is no single corridor for every CIS destination. Depending on the country, the car may travel by sea freight to a gateway port and continue by road or rail under transit documents, go by road through neighbouring countries, or fly by air freight when speed matters more than cost. The route decides which transit and temporary-import documents are needed, which borders the car crosses, where it is transhipped and who the receiving agent is at each stage. NHK Logistics discusses the route with the customer before the handover, so the quotation shows the actual chain of movements rather than a port-to-port price with the inland legs left open.

  • Destination import rules for used vehicles, including age limits and emission requirements
  • Transit documents and guarantees for each country the car passes through
  • Who clears the car at the gateway port and who delivers it inland
  • Where the car waits between legs and whether that storage is covered
  • How the consignee receives the car and signs the final handover

Collection, loading and transport inside the UAE

Within the UAE the car is collected from the seller, dealer or owner and moved to the port, airport or loading yard by land transport, either driven by an authorised driver with export plates or carried on a car carrier for non-running and high-value vehicles. Loading into a container uses straps, blocks and wheel chocks; a RoRo booking needs the car delivered to the terminal within its receiving window with the battery charged and the fuel kept low. Confirm who removes personal items, because most carriers do not accept cargo inside the vehicle.

Who pays for what

Agree the shipping terms with the buyer before the quotation is issued. For a sale to an overseas buyer, the usual split is that the Dubai side covers collection, export clearance and the main transport leg, while destination import duties, taxes and registration are the buyer's. Our Incoterms guide for UAE shippers explains the standard terms, and the freight quote checklist lists what a complete car transportation quotation should show.

Tracking the car to delivery

Each leg of a multimodal car movement has its own milestone: collection, export clearance, loading, departure, arrival at the gateway, transit release, inland departure and final delivery. NHK Logistics shares those milestones with the customer through its shipment tracking and the shipping file, so the owner or dealer always knows where the car is and what the next step needs from them.

Request a cars transportation quote

Send the vehicle list with make, model, year, condition, insurance choice, destination and preferred shipping date through the cars transportation page or the contact form. NHK Logistics in Business Bay, Dubai, arranges the collection, export documents, main transport and onward routing through its freight forwarding service, and keeps each car as its own entry from the first quotation to the signed handover at destination.
