RoRo vs Container: The Best Way to Ship a Car from Dubai

NHK Logistics LLC · 14 October 2026 · 5 min read

Dubai is a major hub for exporting new and used cars. There are two main ways to ship a vehicle by sea, and the right one depends on the car, the destination and your budget. For the full service, see car shipping from Dubai.

RoRo (roll-on/roll-off)

The car is driven onto a specialised vessel and parked on a vehicle deck. It is usually the most economical option for running vehicles. The car must be in working order, and personal items generally cannot be left inside.

Container shipping

The car is loaded into a 20ft or 40ft container and secured with straps and blocks. It is protected from weather and handling, can be non-running, and several cars can share one 40ft container to bring the cost per car down.

Which one to pick

  • Everyday running car, cost matters most: RoRo
  • High-value, classic or new car: container
  • Non-running vehicle: container
  • Several cars together: shared 40ft container
